FLASH is Florida’s only saluki club, and we are working toward several goals. 

AKC Recognition: One of our primary goals is to achieve AKC recognition so we can hold specialty shows. The closest specialty shows to us are in Texas and Kentucky, so we feel the entire Southeast would profit from a specialty club closer to home. We feel we are in a strong position to do this quickly if we can keep our momentum going. We started in the spring of 2001; since then we’ve held three matches (one of which had an entry of more than 70 salukis), had several meetings, and enrolled almost 50 members. We intend to add to this list with additional meetings, matches and educational events.

Social Interaction: Florida has a large saluki population, but we have yet to form a successful AKC sanctioned club. Part of this reason lies in the fact that Florida is a large state, and it’s difficult for all of us to get together on a regular basis. Internet communication has brought us together, and FLASH has two lists available: the flsaluki list and the FLASH list. The flsaluki list is open to anyone interested in saluki happenings in our state. It’s a great place to share news and chat. The FLASH list is open only to FLASH members. It’s designed for club business and discussions. 

Rescue: We recognize that putting on a dog show is but a small part of a club’s responsibility to the breed. Toward that end we are determined that no saluki in need will go unaided. We will work in concert with other rescue organizations to provide the optimal individualized solution for any saluki in need of help. 

Education: We are compiling sources of saluki information and posting articles that should be of help to prospective, new, and even experienced saluki owners—especially as regards to having salukis in Florida. Please take your time to look over the rest of this site and come back often for updates. 

Current Events: Another important FLASH function is to keep people informed of saluki happenings—shows, lure trials, races, conferences, and meetings—in our region. 

Eventually: We hope to be able to sponsor lure-coursing practices and trials, as well as other performance events such as racing.
